Review: The Stephen

This cigar was quite a surprise. It was honestly one of the sweetest most enjoyable cigars that I have smelled in a long time. Although the taste wasn’t as sweet chocolate forward as the smell, it was a great smoking experience. This is a cigar that I will be coming back to again.

Pairings: Jack Daniels Bonded Rye, Orange crush

The Limited Cigar Association (LCA) is thrilled to announce the national debut of the “Stephen” cigar, a tribute to Black History Month, crafted by the Sartorial Tobacconist, Anu Amen-Ra. Anu, with his Native American heritage from Mississippi and extensive experience from an apprenticeship in the Cuban cigar industry, brings his traditional hand-rolling skills to the forefront with this release.

The “Stephen” cigar, measuring 6×50, is named in honor of a historical figure known simply as Stephen, who revolutionized the tobacco industry nearly two centuries ago with his innovative curing method. This unique blend features a hybrid Cameroon/Habano wrapper from Nicaragua’s Condega region, complemented by American tobacco, sweet Dominican Piloto, and a special Peruvian leaf.

This release marks Anu’s first national introduction, celebrating the significant contributions of Black Americans to the cigar industry. The “Sartorial Tobacconist” offers a distinct tobacco experience with this one-of-a-kind cigar.

Milk chocolate fudge brownies barnyard. One of the most chocolate smelling cigars I’ve had.

Dark fruit, fig Newton, milk chocolate

Raisins and Hershey kisses

On the light, a slight Cocoa powder with a yeast roll bready sweetness.

The Retro: is slightly oaky and red pepper. into the third, an okay draw, slightly tight. The burn is slightly wavy with a flaky ash. medium plus strength and body with a long finish. smoke is thick and full with a sweet chocolate aroma.

Flavors upfront are Earth and dark chocolate with a Cocoa powder followed by a coffee and nutty note. Retro brings oak and a strong black pepper, coffee and barnyard. slight sweet tobacco finish on the lips, pepper tingle on the tongue.

Into the second the draw has gotten better and smoking well. strength is moving more North to full with a medium to full body. finish is still long and leaving and lingering sweet note on the lips and a pepper spice tingle on the tongue.

Smoke is full chewy and enjoyable. flavors are now more coffee and Earth forward and the chocolate notes have moved to the background. a Cedar note has made an appearance.

The Retro: brings out the coffee and dark chocolate notes with a slight Cedar. still a black pepper tingle in the sinuses

In the final third the draw is good and the burn has stayed slightly wavy but never got out of control. the ash has held strong but flaky throughout the cigar. at this point the cigar has gone completely full-bodied and full-flavored. smoke is thick and full in the cigar has now started smoking a little hot. still a pepper tingle on the tongue. flavors are all dark and bold. coffee, oak and a bitter chocolate with black pepper on the finish.

The Retro is espresso oak and a white pepper. no tingle on the sinuses
