Last year, United Cigars gave new life to a brand with a legacy spanning more that 250 years. First made available in 1772, Red Anchor would be passed down from one family member to the next – all descendants of creator Albertus Hillen – for well over century. No longer owned by the family, and as a result of heightened competition and expensive policy changes, the storied brand would ultimately be forced to shut down in 1937. Made even more special, both by its origins and present fate, the Red Anchor originated in Delft, Holland and is now crafted at the Kelner Boutique Factory. “The blend means a lot to my family and myself, this is a cigar that represents the colorful history of the Red Anchor and our Dutch family roots,” shares Hendrik Kelner, Jr..
Officially making it’s debut at last year’s Premium Cigar Association trade show, the Red Anchor Admiral sold out almost immediately. This year, three of the blend’s four new formats will be made available to preferred United retailers during July’s show. Gunner is 6.5 x 43 and will retail for a suggested $20. Offered at the same price, Captain is 5 x 50. The 7 x 55 Commodore will launch at a suggested price of $30. The 4.5 x 43 Cooper will retail for $15 each, but is only going to be made available at events. Just like the Admiral, these new sizes are wrapped with Ecuadorian Habano 2000, feature Dominican Monte Plata binder from the Kelner Family Farm, and contain a combination of Dominican San Vincente, Dominican Habano ’92, and Pennsylvanian filler tobaccos.
“Celebrating 250 years of the Red Anchor with the Admiral vitola in 2022 was very special,” said Oliver Nivaud, Director of Operations for United Cigars. “The story and the blend are historic, the additional vitolas are a perfect expression of this.”
Red Anchor The Admiral is available at Privada Cigar Club and other select retailers.
