Spanish for “refined,” the Refinados from D’Crossier has all the makings of a very special project. D’Crossier’s Golden Blend Series made it’s debut in 2009 and has been evolving ever since. Refinados features a Habano Colorado wrapper, grown in Ecuador, that is fermented no less than three times over a 10 month duration. Once this sequence is complete, the tobacco is than aged for an additional year in cedar boxes. Similarly, the Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers selected for this blend are aged for a minimum of 5 years prior to being utilized. Once the cigars have been rolled, using the entubar method – and adorned with triple caps – they are then aged for a span of at least 24 months.
Blended by Isaias Santana Diaz & Andres Leon, Refinados shares a clear lineage with its predecessors. The process that Diaz uses to prepare the wrappers for the Golden Blend Series is a specific set of steps that he’s has been refining for years on projects like the the Golden Blend Reserva. The Reserva – a regular production offering – was brought to market with an initial run of 2000 numbered boxes for each of its three formats. Refinados is being launched in an identical manner and will also be a regular production selection. Like the Reserva before it, Refinados comes from Tabacos de Costa Rica in Santiago de Puriscal, San Jose, Costa Rica.
Shipping begins this Friday, December 2nd, which means that each of the Refinado’s three formats will be available in 25 count boxes at retailers before the end of the year. The Magnifico measures 5.5 x 52 and will be available for an MSRP of $23.00. The Imperiales is wider longer at 5.5 x 56 and has an MSRP of $24.00. The most rotund of the trio, the Wide Toro, is 5.5 x 58 with an MSRP of $25.00.
