This was a tough one. First sample was absolutely beautiful with med veins and visible seems, a nice even pack, and a dark toothy wrapper. The cap was placed well and it had a good hand feel. Being a closed foot, I thought nothing of the tightness of the draw until light up. Unfortunately, the cigar had a solid 2 inch plug and I couldn’t get much of a draw out of it. It’s burned waves due to the placement of the tobaccos. It lost points. After that cigar my spirit was a bit in the dumps. Then I reviewed the 2nd sample a few days later and… It totally redeemed itself! This sample had the same look and construction, but with a darn near perfect draw! The flavors exploded from mute to vibrant, the smoke billowed and was gently rising up the cigar. Although there weren’t many notes, they were prominent, chew, delicious. Sometimes it goes that way. You get a cigar that just has a tweaked issue and sometimes you get an absolute flavor bomb. I got both!
Do not sleep on this cigar. This one is for those who want a small kick in the pants after a good lunch or dinner. Perfect night cap cigar. I think that the draw issue on the first sample wasn’t the true taste of the blend and I can confidently say this cigar is worth it. Really, box worthy. If you like dark rich tobacco, black pepper on the retrohale or if you are looking to try a fuller bodied cigar with a smaller size, this ones for you. This cigar will demand your attention.
The Last Call was blended to be AJ’s last cigar of the night. The maduro version of the cigar features a handsome broadleaf wrapper over Nicaraguan fillers and binders. Notes of dark chocolate, espresso, black pepper, and a thick molasses sweetness delight the senses in this medium-full bodied cigar.
