Review: PCC Popeye’s Rein

Stallone Alagan Review: The Experience

Really enjoyed this cigar! Was right in my wheelhouse from the vitola to the sweet cola notes. A mild smoke but packed with flavor notes in every puff. Almost completely smoked both samples down to nothing. Left me wanting another with a pleasant aftertaste, hours after smoking. Will be adding a bunch of these to my humidor.

I think this is my highest score yet. Minor score hits in draw, burn and complexity. Complex in combined flavor but mostly of the same notes. Draw was a tad snug with small waves in the burn. Very minor in what is a otherwise a near perfect smoke for me.

Deep in Nicaragua, inside a secret Condega factory, there’s a story about Popeye’s Reign. It all started quietly with skilled craftsmen, and there were worries about legal issues. This cigar is proof of their passion and their admiration for what all of us have created here at Privada. This is basically a wraith. It’s a tribute to an iconic brand that’s fiercely guarded. The people who made Popeye’s Reign had to be careful to avoid legal problems while keeping their craft pure. The cigar captures the same bold spirit as Popeye the Sailor Man. Back in 1957, during a famous New York parade, there was a Popeye balloon. Rainwater collected on his sailor’s hat and surprised the people below, just like Popeye’s hearty laugh: Ah-gahgahgahgahgah!

Lively, raisin, bready (pumpernickel & rye), earthy dried fruits (apricot, plum)

Stallone Alagan Review: The Cold Draw

Light notes of breads, grassy, earthy

Stallone Alagan Review: First Third

3/4″ in I am rewarded with a sharp, spritely, slightly sweet, cola note. Later accompanied by ginger, root and sarsaparilla notes.

Stallone Alagan Review: Second Third

Sweetness tones down a bit. Becomes more spice forward…Cinnamon, ginger, cola plant. Sweetness revamps at end of third.

Stallone Alagan Review: Final Third

Brief notes of sarsaparilla sharply cut off by a mineral rich soil and floral note. Finishing off with a mild, mesquite, smokey char.
