Tonight, there will be a special celebration hosted at Ybor City’s Hotel Haya – located on the same site as Tampa’s original Sanchez y Haya cigar factory. One hundred thirty-seven years ago, to the day, the first cigar was rolled in what would eventually come to be known as “Cigar City.” In recognition of this anniversary, J.C. Newman Cigar Company has recreated the original cigars that were crafted at “Factory No. 1” and is making them available exclusively in Tampa.
Packaged in vintage Sanchez y Haya boxes, these cigars are going to be sold individually for a suggested $8.00 each. Two 4.5 x 50 selections have been produced using the same type of tobaccos used by Sanchez y Haya in 1886. Cuban-seed binder and filler are wrapped in one of two tobaccos, Sumatra Sungrown and an Oscuro Maduro. J.C. Newman’s Sanchez y Haya will only be sold at Hotel Haya, The J.C. Newman Cigar Co. Factory Store, and select Tampa area tobacconists.
