Two new releases From Black Works Studio (BLK WKS) are making their way to retailers this week. The first, S&R, hasn’t been made available since 2018. In addtion, the Rorschach Sumatra line will launch as an extension of the popular Rorschach line. James Brown – creator of Black Label Trading Co. and BLK WKS and partner at Fabrica Oveja Negra – shares that he is “very excited for the return of S&R. The profile combines herbal citrus notes with cocoa and a complex mix of chili & white pepper spice. Also being released is the new Rorschach Sumatra. Layers of soft cedar, cinnamon and mild pepper create a complex profile with a long creamy finish.”
The latest iteration of S&R showcases a barber pole aesthetic, made possible by Sumatra and Connecticut wrapper tobaccos. The binder is an Ecuadorian Habano, and the filler tobaccos are from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. Brown describes the S&R as “a bold, medium strength, full flavor blend.” Launching in 3 formats, this limited release can be experienced in a 5 x 50 Robusto, 6 x 46 Corona Larga, and 6.75 x 42 Culebra Lancero. The three cigar Culebra is going to sell for a suggested $36, with the other two vitolas listed for $12.50 each. The Robusto and Corona Larga ship in boxes of 20, while each Culebra has it’s own individual coffin.
Scheduled to be released in a single vitola – 4.5 x 48 Short Robusto – the Rorschach Sumatra is launching with an MSRP of $7 each. Brown explains that “the original Rorschach is definitely a big cigar in a small package. The new Sumatran version is a lighter profile highlighting Jalapa tobacco.” Shipping in 50 count boxes, the cigar features a Sumatra wrapper, Ecuadorian Habano binder, and filler from Nicaragua.
The Oveja Negra family of brands are available from Privada Cigar Club and other select retailers.
