It is officially the holiday season. To normal people, that is exciting; however, to most of us cigar guys, it’s a disappointing time of year for two reasons. Number one our cigar budgets are getting smaller, and number two, it is getting cold outside. I’m not God, so I can’t make it warm all year long; but, what I can do is give you my top five inexpensive cigars, so you can keep smoking during this holiday season!
5) Arturo Fuente Especiales: $3-6
This is by far one of my favorite go-to inexpensive cigars. I have seen these go as low as three dollars, but I have never seen one go over six dollars. Don’t let that small price tag fool you. This cigar is made with quality and care, or else it wouldn’t have the Fuente name on it. With tasting notes of cedar, earth, and spice, this cigar will not let you down!
4) Nica Rustica Connecticut Broadleaf: $4-6
Regardless of high or low budget, this is an absolute favorite of mine out of the Drew Estate lineup; but the fact that this is an inexpensive smoke makes it even better in my honest opinion. This is one of my daily, go-to smokes because of the quality, the taste, and the price point. With flavor notes of black coffee, light spices, and a heavy amount of wood, this cigar will keep your palate satisfied without disappointing your wallet.
3) AJ Frenendaz New World: $4-$8
This is another cigar that I keep in my humidor year-round because of how good it is and also how inexpensive it is. I have no issue shelling out 4 to 8 dollars for a cigar that tastes this good! With a big name like AJ Fernandez, you automatically expect a certain level of quality. Exploiting bold notes of freshly made espresso, dark chocolate, and fresh leather, you definitely won’t regret picking up this budget banger.
2) Rojas Breakfast Taco: $4-$6
So this one gets a few more points than the others because there are three breakfast tacos made by Rojas. Options include a Connecticut, a Maduro, and a Sumatra. However, the one I am specifically talking about here is the Sumatra. This is one cigar that I often sleep on until I have it; and then it’ll be the only cigar I smoke for a few months until I burn myself out, just to repeat the process a few months later. Notes of spice and coffee meet very sweet notes of milk chocolate and cedar. It’s an incredible combination, and you will see why I love this cigar and go for spurts of smoking nothing but this one.
1) Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story: $4-8
I am sure we were all expecting it to be on this list; and if you were, give yourself a pat on the back. If you were not expecting this cigar to make the cut, go sit in the corner and think about what you have done. We all know this cigar because we have had it at least 1 million times. I’ve never heard anyone say, “This is a really bad Hemingway Short Story,” or “This is the biggest waste of five dollars I’ve ever spent.” In fact, I would not argue that it is the most exciting cigar in the world; however, it does offer excellent flavor notes of dried fruit, subtle spice, leather, vanilla, and almond. Considering these flavors, the quality of the cigar, and the price point, you just can’t argue with its ranking number one on the list.
And there you have it – my top five cigar recommendations to save you money during the financially draining, holiday season! Budget be damned, these cigars promise to excite the pallet and keep you happy any season of the year. I may not have a way to get you out of going to your wife’s office Christmas party, but remember everybody in answer to all of life’s many questions, the answer is always To Cigar.
