Up In Smoke

If you are anything like me, you walk into the local humidor and scout around until you find something that catches your eye. If you are especially like me, your eye always ends up falling on some sort of cigar that is typically outrageously priced. And when I say outrageously priced, I mean anything over $30 because, to me, $30 is a lot of money to shell out on something that I am just going to send up in smoke. Well, lucky for you, my dear reader, I somehow talk my wife into letting me spend more money on cigars than I care to admit. So today, I am giving you five cigars that come in over that $30 price tag that I think were worth every single penny we spent! Let’s jump right into it!

5) Opus X Lost City by Fuente Fuente: $35-$40

In my opinion, the Opus X Lost City is an extravagant cigar. It was one of my first high-end cigars. Despite having so many more cigars under my belt, I still keep going back to this one. Why do I keep going back, you ask? Because of the quality and flavor! In my opinion, this cigar offers a great amount of flavor that most cigars just don’t touch. Flavor notes of cinnamon cookies, maple pancakes, toasted caramel, and fresh leather come out of the cigar like Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. This is one very sweet cigar that I think is worth every single penny.

4) 1926 40th Anniversary Maduro by Padron: $30-$35

If you follow me on Instagram, it is no secret that I am a Padron fanboy. I keep a minimum of ten Padrons in my humidor all the time. With that being said, the 1926 40th Anniversary is absolutely what turned me into the Padron fan that I am today. The cigar was amazing. It’s not one I get often, but when I do, it is always for a special occasion, such as my anniversary, my birthday, or the Dolphins winning any match. This full-bodied cigar offers beautiful flavor notes of bold cocoa powder, cinnamon, habanero pepper, and fine leather. This is one cigar that you won’t be disappointed in despite the high price tag.

3) Davidoff Aniversario by Davidoff: $30-$40

I am sure this one will get a lot of hate because many people just want to knock Davidoff, but I’m a fan of their brand. I’ve never had a bad Davidoff. On our second anniversary, my wife took me to Blend, which is the Davidoff lounge located in Indianapolis. I tried this cigar there, and it has managed to live rent-free in my head ever since. I paid somewhere in the ballpark of $30-$35 for it, and no regrets here. Personally, this is a cigar that I keep indulging in over and over again because it is so good. With flavor notes of sweet cream, fresh-cut cedar, honey-covered almonds, and a fair amount of spice throughout the cigar, this is a great cigar, well worth its price tag.

2) The Pledge of Allegiance by EP Carrillo: $15-$60

You are probably asking, “Why the staggering price gap?” This cigar is an extremely limited release that comes out around the Fourth of July. Some distributors gouge the price. Other times, you can only get this on the secondary market. It seems the price goes up the further away from the release date you find it. I can tell you these cigars are easily worth $30-$40 per stick. I think they rank much higher than the Opus X Lost City. This very full-bodied cigar starts with beautiful flavor notes of crushed red pepper, cinnamon, and a heavy amount of earth. The cigar rounds itself out with a beautiful milk chocolate and sweet honey flavor.

1) 50th Anniversary by Padron: $40-$60

I am boarding this train now, despite the recent release of this cigar. My wife bought this one for me for our anniversary this past October, and it is arguably one of the best cigars I have had. It offers a very full-bodied cigar experience while also providing a mellow flavor profile, giving you the best of both worlds without paying for the consequences. The cigar ran about $40; however, I have seen them as high as $60. I would buy this anywhere in the $50-$60 range. It offered a very enjoyable smoking experience with amazing flavors of rich cocoa powder, fine leather, trail mix (think almond and dried fruit), with the perfect amount of cayenne pepper weaved through the rest of the cigar. This is one I will be hunting for and one I will be buying again! And let it be known, I said it was great here first!
