It feels like eons ago when I first started writing for Jonose and his Patreon newsletter. This recipe originally made its debut there, and now I’m bringing it to Cigar Public for an excellent friend of Jonose’s channel, Cigar Hound Dog on YouTube. Since this is one of his favorite recipes, I’m excited to share it with the wider audience here at Cigar Public.
Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Peppers are incredibly delicious and can even be enjoyed by our gluten-free cigar-smoking friends. The stuffing in this dish features all the meaty goodness of sirloin steak and mushrooms, combined with fresh peppers, cooked onions, and melty provolone. And what would we smoke with such a fresh twist on a classic American dish? The Privada Cheesesteak, of course!
Ingredients
- 4 bell peppers, halved
- 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 16 oz. cremini mushrooms, sliced
- Kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 1.5 lbs. sirloin steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tsp. Italian seasoning
- 16 slices provolone
- Freshly chopped parsley, for garnish
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 325º. Place peppers on a large baking dish and bake until tender, 30 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, in a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat oil. Add onions and mushrooms and season with salt and pepper. Cook until soft, 6 minutes. Add steak and season with more salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, 3 minutes. Stir in Italian seasoning.
3. Add provolone to bottom of baked peppers and top with steak mixture. Top with another piece of provolone and broil until golden, 3 minutes.
4. Garnish with parsley before serving.
Pairing: The Privada Cheesesteak
This dish is extremely easy to make and shouldn’t take more than about thirty minutes to complete. Once that’s taken care of, it’s time to move on to the Privada Cheesesteak, which will take much longer than thirty minutes to fully enjoy. The Cheesesteak comes in unique packaging—deli paper, just like what you’d expect with a real Philly Cheesesteak. Packaged in a Churchill vitola, this stick delivers all the delicious flavors you’d associate with a Philly Cheesesteak. The dominant flavor I pick up is beef, complemented by notes of black pepper, onions, and Italian seasoning. I also noticed some espresso on the retrohale.
So, if you’re looking for a solid gluten-free recipe that can satisfy even the most ardent bread lovers, or if you just really like stuffed peppers, give these Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Peppers a try. And be sure to grab the Privada Cheesesteak to complete the experience.
