Black Works Studio The Hornet Corona Larga

Black Works Studio The Hornet Review

Stallone Alagan Review: The Experience
This cigar was as close to perfection as I’ve had in a long time. Construction was legitimately perfect. The burn only lost a point for a wonky burn at light up from the candela closed foot, which is completely understandable and evened out almost immediately.
Final Thoughts: This cigar was beautiful, but I have to admit, due to its unique appearance I believe I know what cigar this is. There aren’t many Maduro cigars with strips of candela in the cap along with a closed candela foot. With that being said, if it’s the cigar I believe it is, I have not smoked one before, nor do I know it’s binder or filler contents. Regardless, this is the highest rating I’ve ever given. I love candela and believe it or not, it was the first type of cigar I smoked that peaked the cigar nerd in me. This obviously was primarily a full on maduro experience, but the touch of candela was executed perfectly. All in all, I have a new favorite cigar and it’s not even close!
Pairing Recommendations: Lager/Pilsner Beer, Guinness Stout, Old Elk Bourbon (neat), Pinot Noir, After a Steak dinner, Dark Chocolate, Black Hot Coffee

Grass

Stallone Alagan Review: The Cold Draw

The closed foot limits the cold draw, but a get a faint black pepper and earthiness.

Stallone Alagan Review: First Third

The closed foot is a candela wrapper, so naturally the first few draws are heavy with grass and hay, but a ton of black pepper spice is there too. I love candela and am thoroughly enjoying the introduction to this cigar. Right as the candela portion subsides, a huge punch of black pepper on the palate and retro emerges. Zero complaints with the first third to report.

Stallone Alagan Review: Second Third

The second third opens with dark chocolate and a touch of meatiness. I feel like the grassy earth from the candela is still hanging out in the background and I love it. As the second third transitions into the final act, the dark chocolate really shines and becomes a bit sweeter than it was initially.

Stallone Alagan Review: Final Third

The final third kicks off with an uptick in strength and with that a healthy black pepper retrohale. Espresso joins the dark chocolate and pepper creating an amazing flavor profile. That early candela from the closed foot is still hanging around way in the background.
