Amendola Family Cigar Co. has just announced that cigar heads across the country can expect to start seeing their new The West Side Story cigars out in the wild this month. With the cigars already on their way to shops, official dates and times have been also provided for the in-person New York City launch events that owners Jefferey Amendola and Christopher Monaco mentioned on their recent Deep Cuts Live appearance with host Antoine Reid.
A press release distributed to cigar media today describes the two owners as “ New York natives who are dedicated to creating brands that represent their roots. Proud Italian Americans who wear their heritage on their sleeves, they felt it was time to create a series of blends which will honor their home state. The decision was making the two blends true born New York cigars.” Every box includes 10 of each blend – Switch Blades and Baseball Bats – all crafted in the United States at Martinez Cigar Factory, the oldest cigar factory in New York City.
Both of of the blends in The West Side Story project, the first in what the brand intends to be a series of themed releases, showcase an Indonesian Sumatra binder and a combination of filler tobaccos grown in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. The Switch Blades utilize a Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper leaf, in contrast to the Mexican San Andres chosen for the Baseball Bats. Debuting at a suggested $14 each, both blends are 6 x 52 Torpedos.
To celebrate the launch, and the city that inspired it, Amendola and Monaco will be appearing at 4 different tobacconists between now and Saturday evening. Tonight and tomorrow, the team will be in Manhattan. Merchant’s Cigar Bar is hosting tonight’s event with Fine Tobacco NYC at 7pm. Tomorrow, Amendola will be rolling cigars live at Barclay Rex from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. Harry’s Habana Hut in Bayside, Queens is hosting an event from 1:00 to 4:00PM on Saturday, followed by more in-person rolling at Long Island’s South Shore Cigar Club in Brighwaters.
